JDM B16B Type R Longblock
The JDM B16B is a legendary engine, specifically engineered for the EK9 Civic Type R. While it shares the same 1.6L displacement as a standard B16A, it is a fundamentally different animal—it actually uses the taller deck block from the B18C, making it a “destroked” racing engine designed for extreme high-RPM stability.
The B16B “Secret Sauce“
Because the B16B uses the taller B18C block but keeps a 1.6L stroke, it has a phenomenal rod-to-stroke ratio (1.85:1). This allows the engine to scream to its 8,200 RPM redline (and beyond) with significantly less side-loading on the cylinder walls than almost any other Honda engine.
