The Head Casting (PR3)
The B16A, B16B, and B18C5 (ITR) all share the PR3 casting. However, they are not created equal:
-
Standard B16A: The base model. Great flow, but lacks factory port work.
-
B16B / B18C5 (Type R): These received a factory mild port and polish on the intake tracts. You can identify these by a green or white paint dab near the distributor and a slightly smoother texture in the ports.
-
Combustion Chamber: 42.7cc. This is smaller than the GSR (P72) head, meaning a B16 head will increase compression when swapped onto a GSR or LS block.
2. Camshaft Selection
The “best” cam depends entirely on your bottom end (especially if you’re using that CSS B16 block).
